Remix OS 2.0 is a new Android 5.1 ROM based operating system for Windows, Linux and Mac computers and laptops. This is definitely a boon for the Android lovers who are waiting more than eight years for desktop-based Android operating systems. Unlike the certain emulators, you do not need to do any hacks on your machine to run Android apps on your computer. This very cool right, isn’t it?
Follow the below guide to install Android 5.0 powered Remix OS 2.0 on your Windows 10/8.1/8/7, Linux and Mac PC or Laptop.
Guide to install Android 5.0 powered Remix OS 2.0 on your Windows 10/8/7, Linux or Mac PC:
Note: Unfortunately, the official developer offers the users to install the operating system only on flash drives. Therefore, you cannot install the operating system on your hard disk.
Requirements to install Remix OS:
- A system with 64 Bit capacity processors.
- A computer with USB 3.0 support. (Also works with some USB 2.0 systems but slow.)
- USB 3.0 powered 8GB flash drive or pen drive with the FAT 32 format (Hope most of the disks now supports FAT32).
Step 1: Download the Remix OS 2.0 for PC
Before the Remix OS 2.0 officially revealed, an unofficial version of this operating system was leaked on the web and still they are available on lots of sites. Don’t download the files from those locations. Because the Remix OS 2.0 ISO file which you going to download on unofficial sites might be an infected or obsolete package. So, download Remix OS from the official developer Jide. The official site itself provides the option to download the operating system with Torrent.
Go to download Remix OS 2.0 for PC official site, tick the check box “I am a developer and have read the above message” and download the package with the direct link or torrent.
Step 2: Check your Flash drive file system type and change it to FAT32:
As we already mentioned, you can install this operating system only on your USB disk drives and that should be in the FAT32 file system. To check whether your USB flash drive in FAT32 format,
- Insert your Flash drive or Pen drive.
- Right-click on that and select Properties.
In the Properties Box, check whether the file system section has FAT32. If not, you have to format your drive as FAT32. To format the flash drive as FAT 32, again right click on your flash drive and select Format.
Select FAT32 in the file system option and hit Start button. Once disk format done, follow the below step to install Remix OS 2.0 on your Windows, Linux or Mac PC and Laptops.
Step 3: Install Android 5.0 powered Remix OS 2.0 for PC on your USB disk:
Once you all done the procedures described above, extract the Remix OS 2.0 package and Open the USB tool from the extracted folder.
After the app getting launched, you can notice there are two fields in the app. In the ISO file field, enter the path of the Remix OS 2.0 ISO file which you downloaded and extracted in a local place. The another field is USB Disk, in that field just select your Flash drive where you want to make bootable Android 5.0 operating system.
That’s it; wait for sometimes as the process of copying all files and making bootable disk takes time. Once everything got completed, the system will prompt you to restart your computer or Laptop. Close all your work and restart your PC or Laptop and follow the below steps.
Make your USB disk as primary Bootable drive:
Once the app creates Remix OS 2.0 bootloader on your USB disk, we have to change that USB disk as a primary boot device on your computer to get the operating system on your flash drive loaded. In this tutorial, I’m using Asus P5G41T-M-LX motherboard. The way of changing the boot device order may vary depends on your motherboard type. If the below tutorial does not help you, just Google for the tutorial to change the boot device priority in your motherboard.
To change the primary boot device, restart your computer and press DELETE key or F12 key.
Instantly, you will be redirected to the BIOS setup screen. Just go to the Boot tab and select Boot Device priority as like below.
In 1st Boot device section, select either Removable device or your USB device and hit F10 button to save and exit.
Boot to Remix OS 2.0 on your Windows 10/8/7, Linux or Mac computers:
If you are done all the setup process correctly, you will get a blue screen with two options after your system boot up like below. The Android-based Remix OS 2.0 offers two way of operating system installation on the USB disk. One is Guest mode, and another one is Resident Mode.
Guest Mode is for one who do not want to save any data from your tasks while using the operating system. All your data will be lost after restarting the computer. This mode is just only for temporary use.
The resident mode is boot and perform like an actual operating system. It can save all your work data, software data and that can be reusable on next boot too. Moreover, the resident mode takes sometimes to boot during the installation.
Select the mode of the installation process that you want to practice with the Remix OS and proceed to the onscreen instruction during the setup. Once installation done successfully, set your preferred language, agree to the user agreement and explore the new world of Android OS for PC.
Happy visit with Remix OS 2.0 on your PC.
